Meet Violet.....

Violet was less than a year old when her mother was killed. She was found chained to a squalid chicken cage in a rural village in central Indonesian Borneo. Her 'owners' regarded Violet as a pet. Scared, infested with parasites and suffering from aneaemia and amoebic dysentery, she was rescued just in time.

To read the rest of Violets story go to care for the wild and click on orangutans in the list of animals to be adopted. We have been adopting Violet for a few years now. We made the decision to adopt an orangutan after visiting the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in the Malaysian Sabah District of North Borneo in 2006. It was an amazing experience and one that we hope to be able to experience again with our daughter, Violet. Yes that's right we have adopted an orangutan named Violet for our daughter Violet. The birth of Violet was closely followed by the decision to adopt an animal for her so when we started researching for an orangutan to adopt and we found one called Violet the decision was made!

Read more about Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre and the great work that they do every day.

So next time you need to buy a present for someone why not consider adopting an animal instead of another toy which gets put in a corner and forgotten about.
